With the help of a $400,000 CDBG grant and a $550,000 loan from the Department of Health and Environment, the City of St. Francis completed a wastewater treatment facility improvement project in 2005. The project included installing a lift station, stabilization and repair of the sewer ponds and rehabilitation and replacement of manholes.

The City has been awarded a KANSTEP grant through the Department of Commerce and Housing and is planning to erect an Emergency Building near Highway 36 that will house the ambulance and the rural and city fire trucks.

The building will include office, training and study areas, storage for all entities, have a hazardous materials decontamination shower, a kitchen and wash bay. The grant will pay for the building materials, the engineer and architects fees and volunteers will supply the labor. Plans are currently to start this project in fall 2006.
