Each month, a new display of art is put up for public viewing in the library's meeting room by Virginia Cooper, Marti Schlittenhardt and Bonnie McQuillen. If you have cable, you can check Channel 15 to see what is exhibited this month.
If you would like your own art to be displayed in the library, know of someone else's that you would like to see, or have an idea for a display, please tell Virginia Cooper. |

In the late 1990's, Rachel Huffman realized that there was currently no place in St. Francis to exhibit art, and thought a good place to do that might be in the library's meeting room. A grant of around $200 from Dr. Ernest Cram and a frame to hang art on, built by Scott Schultz, made the first art exhibit a reality.
Each April, all the art from the grade school and high school that goes to the Northwest Kansas League Art Show is displayed, including one piece from every child in Grade School. |
|
| Every April, the library has a book sale at which it sells outdated or duplicate books at a low price. This can be a great way to find cheap books in good condition. Last year, most books were sold for about 75¢. |
Want a book the St. Francis library doesn't have? Books and other materials can be borrowed from the Northwest Kansas Library System.

|
The library will make photocopies for a small charge:
25¢ for out-of-library papers.
15¢ for in-library copies. |
| During tax season, two AARP employees are available at the library at no charge to help those who need it with their income tax returns. Also, from January to April, both federal and state income tax forms are available at the library for all income levels. |
| A few tickets to Western Plains Art Association events may be available at the library. |
| For more information on the book sale, interlibrary loans, photocopies, tax help, or WPAA tickets, contact Pat Leibbrandt at the library. |
| In 2004, the library bought three computers with the city's high-speed, wireless Internet, available for public use at no charge. To use them, you must sign a contract available at the library. |
No one under 18 may use the computers without a parent's permission and signature on the contract.
Unless you have an individual, personal account, you may not check your email.
No buying or selling on the Internet.
No chatting in chat rooms.
If someone else is waiting to use the computers, you can be on them for no more than one hour. |

In 1892, a group of interested citizens met to form a library association. By 1928 several women's clubs had organized and helped establish a city library in the basement of the courthouse. It was opened in 1932, offering its services to the citizens of Cheyenne County. A city tax was levied in 1937 to assist the library. |
 |
In 1987, a new library was opened, thanks to a generous donation of $87,418, a state construction grant ($134,366) and donations from citizens and organizations in the community. Josephine Churchill donated the land the library now stands upon. The library is a member of the Northwest Kansas Library System.
The library uses memorials and donations from clubs and private citizens to improve its facilities. Recently, a new clock and new shelves were added, along with a cabinet built by Kyle Buffington.
The library now owns over 14,000 books. |
